Abacus - Australian Mutuals is governed by a board of directors elected by our member credit unions and mutual building societies. The board is headed by an independent chair.

Greg Connor, Chair
Chief Executive Officer, Savings & Loans Credit Union, Adelaide
Greg Connor is the CEO of one of Australia’s largest credit unions. Greg is a Director of the Australian Institute of Credit Union Management, a Director of the Children, Youth and Women’s Health Services, and on the Board of the Australian Institute of Management (Adelaide Chapter). Under Greg’s leadership for the past six years, Savings & Loans has been named Credit Union of the Year on five occasions and achieved silver status on the national Corporate Social Responsibility Index.

Larry Anthony, Director
Larry Anthony is the Chairman of the NCUA (National Credit Union Association) and an independent Director of Indue Ltd. He is a non executive Director on ABC Learning Centres, an Independent Director on Macquarie Media Group, a Director on Certainedge Pty Ltd and the Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards for Australia. Mr Anthony was a former Minister in the Australian Government and held numerous portfolios over his political career. Prior to politics Larry spent 10 years working in the financial sector for a range of companies including Potter Warburg and Merrill Lynch.

John Cossons, Director
Chairman, Australian Central Credit Union, Adelaide
John Cossons is the Chairman of Australian Central and has 27 years experience as a credit union director.
John has a strong policy background developed in the Northern Territory public sector and is actively involved in a number of community organisations, including his appointment as the independent chair of a Ministerial Advisory Council in the education sector.

Scott King, Director
Chief Executive Officer, Qantas Staff Credit Union, Sydney
Limited and is the Chairman of the Indue Board Corporate Governance Committee. He is also a Director of the Australasian Mutuals Institute (AMI).
Prior to joining the Qantas Staff Credit Union Scott worked within the wholesale banking environment. Scott is a Chartered Accountant having spent 5 years at KPMG specialising in the Banking division.

John Minz, Director
Chief Executive Officer, Heritage Building Society, Toowoomba
John Minz is the CEO of Heritage, Australia's largest building society. With more than $6 billion in total assets, John has steered the Society through its most recent growth phase.
Appointed to the role in late 2003, under John's leadership the Society has become the first Australian building society to attain two credit ratings, receiving both a Standard & Poor's and Moody's rating; returned more than $95 million to members in additional member value and maintained member satisfaction ratings above 90%.
John has more than twenty years experience in the financial services sector.

Tony Ryan, Director
Chief Executive Officer, Big Sky Credit Union, Melbourne
Tony Ryan has been involved in the credit union industry for over 20 years and is currently the CEO of Big Sky Credit Union in Victoria. Tony was a Director of the former Australian Institute of Credit Union Management, and is a Fellow of the Australasian Credit Union Institute (ACUI). Tony’s previous experience includes executive positions within Victorian Government statutory authorities.

Andrew Saxby, Director
Chief Executive Officer, Hume Building Society, Albury
Andrew Saxby has been Chief Executive Officer and Company Secretary of Hume Building Society Limited since January 2003. Andrew has over 18 years experience in the mutual financial industry including five years as Chief Financial Officer at another mutual building society. Andrew was a Deputy Chairman of AAPBS prior to the establishment of Abacus and is a current member of the Board of Wodonga Regional Health Service.

Geoffrey Seccombe, Director
General Manager, Maitland Mutual Building Society, Maitland
Geoff Seccombe commenced working for Maitland Mutual Building Society in 1989 and was promoted to General Manager in 1994. Geoff has 34 years experience in financial services and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (Finsia). He was a Board member of the Australian Association of Permanent Building Societies (AAPBS) and its NSW Division prior to the establishment of Abacus.

Margot Sweeny, Director
Chief Executive Officer, The Summerland Credit Union, Lismore
Margot Sweeny is the Chief Executive Officer of The Summerland Credit Union Ltd. Margot has worked in accounting and finance across both the public and private sectors for national and international companies. Her involvement with mutual organisations commenced in 1993 when she became a Director of Summerland Credit Union. She is an active member of the local community and has been ministerially appointed to both State and Federal Boards. She is also a Member of the Southern Cross University Council and Chair of the Audit Committee.

Chris Wright, Director
Managing Director, Lifeplan Australia, Adelaide
Chris was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Lifeplan Funds Management in 1992 and Managing Director in 1998. Prior to that time he held a number of positions with the Lifeplan Group. He is also Chairman of the Australian Friendly Societies Association and is a Director of National Pharmacies and the Australian Institute of Management (SA).
